Attention Second Homeowners and Seasonal Residents

If you own a second home or go away for extended periods of time, please be sure that you take precautions to ensure that your pipes don't freeze during the winter months. Remember, the Insurance Companies require that you take every necessary precaution to avoid your pipes from freezing. Below are some things to think about.

  • Make sure water is shut off and electrical appliances are unplugged.
  • Maintain heat during winter, open cabinet doors in the kitchen under the sink, and in the bathroom(s) to keep the pipes warm.
  • If you have oil heat, have your furnace serviced on a regular basis to prevent winter failure.
  • Arrange for someone to check the home on a regular basis.
  • Consider a temperature monitoring system.
